Mishmarotix
Shift management that actually works

How to choose shift scheduling software

Shift scheduling software, rota software or an employee scheduling app: ten questions to ask before you choose one, what to test during the trial with your real team, and how Mishmarotix answers each.

Ten questions

  • Can staff use it from their phone without installing anything? Software that needs an install and a complicated sign-up will not be used by the whole team.
  • Does it speak your team’s language? Many teams include people who read Arabic, Russian or English better than the local language.
  • Are availability, leave requests and swaps built in, or will they keep happening in a group chat?
  • Does it warn you while you assign about overlaps, short rest, approved leave and missing qualifications?
  • Is the time clock tied to the rota, so you can see planned against actual?
  • Do hours reports separate overtime and rest-day work, and can a month sent to payroll be locked?
  • Can the hours go to your payroll software without being typed in again?
  • Who sees pay data and personal details, and are they encrypted? In Israel, since Amendment 13 to the Privacy Protection Law, that is a question of liability.
  • Is the price published and simple, or do you need a call to find out what it costs?
  • Can you export all your data and leave, if one day you want to?

What to test during the trial

Do not try it alone. Invite three or four real employees, build one real week, and ask them to submit availability and request a swap. What they say after a week is worth more than any feature list.

Test the unpleasant moments too: somebody off sick, a shift left open, a punch somebody forgot. Good software is measured on the bad day, not the ordinary one.

How Mishmarotix answers them

Included for every user: it opens in the phone’s browser, in Hebrew, Arabic, Russian and English, with nothing to install. Availability, leave, swaps and open shifts are built in, and warnings about overlaps, short rest, leave, missing qualifications and long night shifts appear as you assign. Clocking in from the phone is tied to the rota, and the monthly hours report separates regular hours, overtime and rest-day work. There is more on the shift scheduling page and on the time clock page.

In packages you buy once: locking a month sent to payroll and the labour-law report (Compliance and payroll lock), import files for payroll software (Payroll export), labour cost (Advanced reports) and automatic scheduling. All prices are on the pricing page. Sensitive details are stored encrypted, and your data can be exported at any time.

The next step

The best test is a real week: a free trial of 7 days, for up to 5 users, with no credit card. If you are not ready yet, start from the free staff rota template, or read how to build a weekly rota first.

Is an employee scheduling app different from scheduling software?

People use the words for the same tool: the manager builds the rota in it, and staff see it and submit availability. The difference that matters is how staff get in: an app they install from a store, or software that opens in the phone’s browser. Mishmarotix opens in the browser, and can be added to the home screen like an app.

How much does rota software cost?

In Mishmarotix: the first 3 users with no monthly charge, $5 a month for each additional user, and a one-time setup fee of $10. With any system you look at, ask whether employees count as users and what each add-on costs.

What should you check during the trial?

Build one real week with the team: collect availability, assign, publish and handle one swap request. A week like that shows more than any demo.

Do employees need to install anything?

With a system that opens in the browser, no. It is worth asking every vendor, because an app people must install is a common reason part of the team never signs in.
